Key Studio Media Release: 21/5/2010
Press release concerning Google TV and online media production
Google announced today that it will be launching its latest assault on the home entertainment market with “Google TV”. Not only does this mean that we’ll all have a plethora of content to watch on our big screen TV’s, it also (very sneakily) allows a whole new generation of advertising to flood the market. With a huge increase in the spend for online video marketing expected over the coming months (SMH, “Online video ads to eat up TV budgets”, 5/3/2010), the heat is on for companies to extend their current marketing campaigns into regions that are about to take off.
Michael Teulon from Key Studio, a Sydney based studio hire facility, discusses the change that this has meant for the production and viewing community. “Online media is completely different from the video production that many businesses may be used to. It’s got a much faster turn around time, focuses heavily on interaction and is extremely price sensitive. Google TV has emphasised the need to make everything short and sharp. With the type of control people now have over their viewing, you can no longer expect a 30 second advert to be viewed with attention. We’ve noticed a sharp increase in production companies requesting our facilities to make 10-15 second promos for them to put online. The upside for us is that, to have the desired return on investment, it needs to be much cheaper than your traditional video styles. So our model of shooting in our green screen studios has become extremely popular. Personally, I believe that over the next year or two, every new TV will come equipped to view a huge amount of online channels, and will absolutely revolutionise the way in which Australians watch and interact with television”.
Google ads are already being shown as the easy way forward for video advertising. With Google consistently breaking the mould when it comes to online conventions, it’s no surprise that businesses are eager to learn more. Key Studio can be contacted on (02) 8209 1916 or www.keystudio.com.au

"Online video ads to eat up TV budgets JULIAN LEE March 5, 2010"
Advertising around online videos could eat up as much as a third of TV budgets within the next five years, online publishers and leading media buyers claim as the definition of what constitutes screen-based advertising undergoes rapid change. The body representing the major online publishers said this week that by 2015 advertising around online video clips or longer-form content could be worth $1 billion - a huge leap from the estimated $35 million it is worth today.
Paul Fisher, chief executive of the Interactive Advertising Bureau, based his estimates on his projection that online advertising will be a $3.5 billion industry by 2014, with a third devoted to display. Ads placed around video clips and on mobiles are expected to drive the growth in display ads, he said. ''I admit there isn't any science in it … but I think it's a very real scenario that about a third will be for video,'' Mr Fisher said, adding that most, if not all, would be from TV budgets. Mr Fisher's comments prompted a sharp rebuke from the Nine Network sales and marketing director, Peter Wiltshire, who said that to portray TV as ''the victim'' was inaccurate as marketers were increasingly using both mediums together.
